Slingbox rocks
I got me a Slingbox Pro, the perfect companion to my jet-setting lifestyle and 360-GB TiVo Series 2. I hooked up the s-video port to the TiVo, the A/V port to my cable box, and the coax to my cable. With this setup, I can pull down recorded TiVo shows (and manage the TiVo), and when the TiVo isn't recording, even pull down Comcast on-demand shows. And if I want a dose of real-time news even while the TiVo is grabbing entertainiment, I can flip on CNN-Headline or Northwest Cable News. Yeay.
I couldn't resist yesterday... when I was using Slingplayer to select programs to record, I found Sling Blade. So I used my Slingbox to select recording Sling Blade. Heh.
The bandwidth requirement is self-adjusting, but I couldn't resist tweaking to see what would happen if I was stuck on a 256K or 128K link. Surprisingly, it came out quite nice and watchable, although cranked down to 10 fps and mono 16kbps audio. My maximum uplink is about 512K, so on a fat pipe, I was getting decent full screen video, with only moderate compression artifacts.
